Trivia triumph: making a difference with our charity quiz nights
This month we hosted two quiz nights of (mostly) friendly rivalry and fundraising. Businesses from across the east battled it out in Cambridge and Ipswich, and there was plenty of fun, camaraderie and banter to be had. Here’s a round-up of what happened on the night.
In Cambridge
13 teams made up of 78 quizzers sat down at the Hinxton Hall Conference Centre to fight it out over eight rounds of questions. They showed off impressive knowledge of topics including ‘Stranger Things’, the London Marathon and Paddington Bear.
Who came along?
Some of the organisations showcasing their trivia expertise included Alzheimer’s Research UK, Anglian Learning, Birketts LLP, RxCelerate, TWI Ltd and Wellcome Sanger Institute. But in the end, it was Evelyn Partners who finished at the head of the pack to be crowned the worthy winners.
It wasn’t all about the questions though – there was also a raffle, with prizes to suit every taste, generously donated by local businesses. These included beauty, fitness and coffee-shop vouchers, wine and prosecco, and even a dog groom.
How much did we make for charity?
We're delighted to report that the quiz raised over £1,000, which we're donating to Woodgreen Pets Charity. This impressive organisation provides a safe haven for abandoned and vulnerable pets in need of urgent care and loving new homes.
We chose Woodgreen because we're in awe of their unique understanding of what makes the relationship between pets and people so special.
In Ipswich
Our Ipswich quiz had a fantastic turnout. 125 people split in to 25 teams put on their thinking caps to go head to head at Venue 16. With questions covering everything from Brexit, New York City boroughs and Ross from Friends, it really was a tough battle.
Who came along?
The businesses that took part were:
- Axter Ltd
- Barker Gotelee Solicitors
- Beckett Investment Management
- Birkett Long
- Birketts LLP
- Chorus Intelligence
- Curtis Banks
- Energy Power Resources Limited
- Larking Gowen LLP
- Mad HR
- The NHS
- Ormiston Families
- Poundfield Precast Ltd
- Prettys Solicitors LLP
- Soler & Palau UK
- Strutt & Parker
- Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS)
Just to really up the ante, we had multiple teams from Birketts, Energy Power Resources and Axter, all desperate to beat their colleagues to the top spot. In fact, it was such a tight contest that it ended in a draw – but it was Becketts Investment Management and Soler & Palau which came out on top as joint winners, and took home a year's worth of bragging rights.
The raffle was also a popular part of the evening, with prizes including a two-course feast for two, tickets to the Suffolk Show, vouchers and bottles of Adnams’ Copper House gin.
How much did we make for charity?
Thanks to the support of everyone who came along, our Ipswich quiz raised even more than last year, with an impressive total of almost £2,500. We’re donating this to the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS), an emergency medical charity. Their specialist volunteer clinicians help the East of England Ambulance Service at the scenes of incidents and emergencies, treating thousands of patients with serious or life-threatening conditions or trauma.
A big thanks to everyone involved
Our quizzes are just one of the ways we give back to the communities that we're part of. We'd like to thank everyone who came along, as well as the people at Pure who made it happen. And special congratulations to our winners.
If you couldn't make it this year, and you think you've got the knowledge to take home the 2025 crown, keep an eye on our news page to see what's coming up. We're already looking forward to more entertaining evenings of learning, laughter and giving back.
